“Today’s Unrealized Potential for Public Safety Communications: Voice and Data anytime, anywhere, over any device and any network"
William A. Maheu, Senior Director, QualComm Government Technologies
Is it realistic to believe that we can enhance legacy voice and data systems to provide “anytime/anywhere” interoperability – cost effectively? Yes – its not only realistic, but something public safety should demand. In the following presentation we will discuss topics such as LMR to cell and cell to LMR, normalization of disparate data to provide a common operating picture, location based services, and video analytics. Additionally, we will look into the not to distant future to visualize the mobile public safety officer supported by passive IT applications giving him/her complete situational awareness and response compatibilities far beyond what was dreamed of a few short years ago. To complete this discussion we will delve into an a dialogue about those realities we must appreciate and work within, spectrum, budget, security and training, that public safety face each and every day, and the role reconfigurable radio technologies can play in order to reach the vision.
